There is almost always a wait at the border heading north into the U.S. Saturday and Sunday nights are usually very crowded. Upon leaving México, a U.S. Customs officer will most likely ask you your nationality, what you have to declare, what you have in your car or van, and your purpose for having been in México. Occasionally, you will be asked to show your I.D. (passport, drivers license or work permit is preferable), asked who owns the vehicle you are driving or asked to open your trunk or back door for a spot-inspection. You may also be asked to pull over into a secondary inspection area.
